The Technology Transfer Center (TTC) hosted an Intellectual Property (IP) Seminar “An Introduction to Intellectual Property and its Protection Strategies” on 14 September 2018 at Chow Tak Sin Lecture Theater. The seminar featured Mr. Jerald L. Meyer and Gregory B. Kang, the Co-Partner-in-Charge in the law firm Nath, Goldberg & Meyer in the US.
In the seminar, Mr. Kang first gave a brief introduction of various types of IP, including patent, trademark, copyright (including software & database), trade secret or know-how, design. They then introduced IP protection strategy with respect to different nature of inventions. After providing basic knowledge on IP, they focused on patents by providing patent filing and prosecution strategies. They suggested the best timing to file a patent application and discussed the impact of public disclosure on patent filing. Mr. Meyer pointed out how patent associates with other types of IPs mentioned in the seminar. To conclude the seminar, he gave insights on how to increase the value of an invention.The response to the seminar was overwhelming by drawing an audience of over 180.
